Rose Gold

Sunbeam makes a prism on the wall
Lying on the rug in the front hall
My mind's eye can recreate
Those days when I was eight
But somewhere deep down I must know
Because it was so long ago
Living it was so much different
I just can't trust my rose gold tinted glasses
The lustre of nostalgia is so strong
It's fool's gold, these memories are wrong
And though I sought a change in my demeanour
The truth is that the grass is always greener
I wish I could bottle all the fire
That my pyrite memories inspire
That's an errand full of torment
I'm better living for this moment
It seems the older that I get
The more my peace of mind is under threat
The truth is happiness is fleeting
Here to stay but then retreating
But somewhere deep down I must know
Because it was so long ago
Living it was so much different
I just can't trust my rose gold tinted glasses
The lustre of nostalgia is so strong
It's fool's gold, these memories are wrong
And though I sought a change in my demeanour
The truth is that the grass is always greener

Forsythia

Forsythia, light of the morning
Golden florets, briefly adorning
Herald of hope and the breaking of day
A touch of hard frost and then you've gone away
Flowers will fade as the summer draws close
I'm sorry that you faded quicker than most
Forsythia
Forsythia, nighttime entangles
Every choice, viewed from all angles
Sometimes my life is so full of decisions
I don't know what I chose and what came in a vision
New flowers will flower from years' past of toil
Viridian shoots will spring up from the soil
Forsythia
